The Best of Alaska Black Bear Hunts

Alaska is a beautiful place to visit and it offers a wide range of terrain from rolling grassy hills, to steep mountains and it is known for its thriving population of large Black Bears. See our VIDEO.
In the fall the Black Bears have left their summer fishing holes and start feeding on the berries along the hillsides during the daytime. This is ideal for a real spot and stalk type of hunting. The area we hunt is miles away from any city or village and it is rare that you see other people in our remote location
The Alaskan Black Bear has an average life span of 25 years. They are solitary creatures, except for sows with cubs.

What to Expect on Your Alaskan Brown Bear Hunt

When hunting Black Bear the season is open year round in our guide use areas where the bears can be found both fishing on the rivers and in the mountains feeding on berries. This is a good time to use our jet boats to hunt the spots they frequent and to watch at the entrances of the streams that hold large numbers of spawning Alaskan Salmon. In mid-August more Bears begin to migrate off of the Salmon streams climbing up to the mountains to search for wild berries.
The spot and stalk method is used here very successfully. When a good bear is spotted the chase begins and all of our efforts are used to get into position to make the harvest. Numerous bears have gotten away because of poor shooting and the lack of stamina needed to close the deal. More than likely the stalk will require that we move to intercept a bear as it travels around the mountain feeding on berries or on the rivers/streams while the salmon are still running in large numbers. In the Fall the colors are spectacular, animals begin to move about more and it’s truly a great time to be in the wild bush wilderness in Alaska. Our Guides have many seasoned years of experience in hunting, glassing, and scouting along with extensive knowledge of Black Bears. You may also enjoy excellent Sport Fishing during your hunt for Alaskan Rainbow Trout, Arctic Grayling, (Char) Dolly Varden, Burbot, Northern Pike, Alaskan Chinook (Kings), Sockeye (Reds), and Coho (Silver) Salmon on the freshwater rivers we hunt.

Black Bear Hunting Methods

By using the Jon boats with outboard jet motors on them we can travel up or down rivers for miles to hunt and get into many of the smaller streams that feed the main rivers. From here we can use spike camps when hunting, or we may return to the base camp every night. This can be very productive, as other hunters cannot fly along the river and land where we are hunting. This allows access to remote areas where mature animals inhabit that cannot be reached any other way. We are the only Guide/Outfitter in this area that operates on these rivers and streams. Give us 6 inches of water and a chainsaw to cut through old logjams and we can get to places never hunted before
Besides using Jet boats we may access the uplands by Piper Cub planes, 8-wheel drive Argos, or ATVs. This way we can glass and hunt the higher mountain valleys, alpine meadows, and open country.

Our Alaska Hunting Camps

Our River Base camps offer our most comfortable accommodations and offer a great chance for harvesting Alaska Black Bears, Alaska Brown/Grizzly Bears, Moose, and Caribou without having to do the more strenuous type of spike camp hunting. You still need to be in good shape to have a more successful and enjoyable trip. At these camps, we have large wall tents for dining and common use with wood stoves for heat and propane burners for cooking. There are generators for power, hot showers, outhouse toilets, and sleeping quarters with comfortable cots. In these camps, we have satellite phones for communications with each other and emergency use. The guides also carry video cameras to capture your hunt and daily activities for you to have forever to remember your Alaskan hunt.
