Alaska Black Bear Hunts
Alaska’s stunning landscapes, ranging from rolling grassy hills to towering mountains, are home to a thriving population of large Black Bears. This makes it a truly beautiful place to visit and an exciting destination for bear hunters.
In the fall, as the bears leave their summer fishing spots, they begin actively feeding on the abundant berries along the hillsides during daylight hours. This creates an ideal environment for a classic and rewarding spot-and-stalk hunting experience. Our remote hunting areas are situated miles away from any city or village, offering a truly secluded wilderness experience with minimal human presence.
The Alaskan Black Bear is a magnificent creature with an average lifespan of around 25 years. They are generally solitary animals, with the exception of female bears (sows) accompanied by their cubs.

What to Expect on Your Alaskan Black Bear Hunt
Beginning in mid-August, a significant number of Black Bears transition from the salmon streams and begin their ascent into the mountains in search of ripening wild berries. This shift in behavior presents an ideal scenario for classic spot-and-stalk hunting techniques across the hillsides and higher elevations. Our remote hunting locations, far removed from human settlements, provide a pristine environment for pursuing these impressive bears in their natural foraging patterns.
Our primary Black Bear hunting method is the highly effective spot and stalk. Once a quality bear is located, the pursuit begins, with our experienced guides utilizing their expertise to position you for a successful harvest. While opportunities abound, ethical shots and the stamina to close the distance are crucial for success. Often, the stalk involves strategically moving to intercept a bear as it forages on berries along the mountainsides or fishes along the rivers and streams during the salmon runs.

Black Bear Hunting Methods
Our fleet of Jon boats, equipped with powerful outboard jet motors, provides us with the unique ability to navigate rivers for extensive distances, accessing numerous smaller streams that feed the main waterways. This allows for flexible hunting strategies, utilizing spike camps in remote areas or returning to the comfort of our base camp each night. This method offers a significant advantage, as other hunters cannot simply fly in and land along the river where our jet boats operate, granting us exclusive access to prime habitats untouched by others.
