What License and Tags Do You Need For Your Alaska Hunt?

Non-resident and Non-resident Alien hunters pursuing moose must obtain a moose harvest ticket and purchase the appropriate metal locking big game tag before hunting any Alaskan big game animal. Immediately upon harvesting an animal, the tag must be affixed and locked onto it and remain until the animal is prepared for storage, export, or consumption. For animals like bears in units where meat salvage isn’t required, tags must be locked on the hide. A big game tag can be used for a species of equal or lesser value. For instance, a brown bear tag can be used for a moose, as the moose tag has a lower value.

Upon harvesting your moose, you must immediately notch the day and month on your harvest ticket. Upon returning to town, you will need to complete the required information on the harvest report and mail it back to the Alaska Department of Fish & Game using the pre-paid postal stamp provided.

There is no lottery or drawing system for hunting/fishing licenses and big game tags (except for Bison) in Game Management Unit 19 and our guide use areas.

You can purchase all necessary big game tags and hunting/fishing licenses online through the State of Alaska Department of Commerce. Clients are required to purchase these in advance of their hunt and before departing for the field. The website for this is: https://www.adfg.alaska.gov.

Harvest Tickets are needed to hunt for Moose, Caribou, and Sitka Deer are provided free of charge by the State of Alaska Department of Fish and Game.

Nonresident Big Game Tag & License Fees (In our Guide Use & Game Management Areas)

●  Big Game Hunting License – $160
●  Brown Bear/Grizzly – $1,000
●  Moose – $800
●  Black Bear – $450
●  Wolverine – $350
●  Wolf in GMU 19 – $0

Nonresident Alien Tags

●  Brown Bear/Grizzly – $1,300
●  Moose – $1,000
●  Black Bear – $600
●  Wolverine – $500
●  Wolf in GMU 19 – $0
In addition to big game hunting, exceptional freshwater sport fishing opportunities are available.
●  Nonresident 7-day sport fishing license: $45.00
●  Nonresident 14-day sport fishing license: $75.00

Please Note: Big Game Tags are different from Harvest Tickets, which are required for hunting Moose, Caribou, and Deer with Alaska Bush Adventures and are provided free by the Alaska Department of Fish & Game.

Big Game Tags must be securely fastened and locked onto a harvested animal immediately after the kill. For Moose, Caribou, or Sitka Deer, this is around one of the antlers or through a hole punched in the skull plate. For Bear, Wolf, or Wolverine, it is attached to the hide. These tags must remain attached until your big game species is prepared, consumed, and, if required, sealed by the Alaska Department of Fish & Game before being exported or transported out of Alaska.

Guided Hunt Base Camp Accommodations

Our River Base Camps offer comfortable accommodations and provide excellent opportunities for harvesting Alaskan Yukon Moose, Brown/Grizzly Bear, and Black Bear without the need for more strenuous spike camp hunting. While a good level of physical fitness will enhance your success and enjoyment, these camps offer a more relaxed environment. Our base camps feature large wall tents for dining and common use, equipped with wood stoves for heat and propane burners for cooking, generators for power, hot showers, outhouse toilets, and private sleeping quarters with sleeping pads. Our basecamps have a high speed Internet Starlink satellite system along with satellite phones for communications and emergency use. Clients can link their cell phones with the Starlink system to contact love ones in the lower 48. Our Guides also use video cameras to capture your hunt and daily activities, providing you with lasting memories of your Alaskan adventure.

Utilizing 14′ & 16′ Jon boats with outboard motors and jet units allows us to navigate rivers for miles, accessing areas inaccessible to propeller-driven boats. We operate from two distinct Base Camps on tributaries of the main river system, spaced approximately two hours apart by jet boat. This strategic setup allows us to hunt a vast area while returning to the comfort of our base camps each night. This method offers a highly productive hunting experience, as other hunters cannot easily fly in and land along the river where our jet boats operate, granting us exclusive access to remote habitats teeming with mature animals unreachable by any other means. We are the sole Guide/Outfitter in this region operating on these rivers and streams in this manner. With just six inches of water and a chainsaw to clear logjams, we can reach previously untouched hunting grounds. In addition to jet boats, we may utilize Piper Cub planes, Argos, or ATVs to access upland areas for glassing and hunting higher mountain valleys, alpine meadows, and open country for Alaskan Yukon Moose, Barren Ground Caribou, Alaska’s Brown/Grizzly Bears, and Alaskan Black Bears.

Do Guides Receive Gratuities?

Gratuities are entirely at your discretion as the Client. Our Guides work diligently to ensure you have a successful and enjoyable hunt. As the value of service can vary from person to person, a generous tip for a hardworking guide is always appreciated and is a standard practice in the hunting industry. While the amount is up to each individual, a tip of 10-12% of the hunt cost is the industry standard and is greatly appreciated.
